IQOS 3 duo full review and comparison.

By July 7, 2021December 21st, 2021IQOS 3 duo

Here we are not only gonna introduce new features of IQOS 3 duo, and comparison with old versions, but we are also gonna do some fact check – and, is it worth upgrading to IQOS 3 duo?

Outlook: Compared to the previous version, 3 duo has not changed much either in the outer packaging or in the appearance of the product.

Functions/Features : These are the two major upgrades of 3 duo. :

PMI CEO Andre Calantzopoulos:”The latest iqos 3 duo has new features designed to help adult smokers switch from cigarettes more seamlessly. IQOS 3 duo has the fastest and most powerful holder in the IQOS series. It can be used twice without charging the holder. The charging time of the pocket is much faster than that of iqos 3 and iqos 2.4+.”

Also let’s comparison and fact check:

IQOS 3 DUO compare with IQOS 2.4 PLUS:

According to the data from the official website of iqos.co.uk,

IQOS heats tobacco (HEETS) to a temperature up to 350°C, releasing the true tobacco flavor and nicotine without burning the tobacco.

The IQOS 2.4 PLUS Holder needs to be recharged in the Pocket Charger after each use, the Pocket Charger is recharged via Micro-USB.

IQOS 2.4 PLUS Holder charging time: 4 minutes 10 seconds
IQOS 2.4 PLUS Pocket Charger charging time: 90 minutes
IQOS 2.4 PLUS Pocket Charger battery life: 20 sessions

IQOS 3 DUO Holder average charging time:

0-1 use avg. 1 min 50 seconds
1-2 uses avg. 3 min 25 seconds
0-2 uses avg. 5 min 15 seconds
IQOS 3 DUO Pocket Charger charging time: 120 minutes
IQOS 3 DUO Pocket Charger battery life: 20 sessions

So these ‘upgrades’ are not very impressive, they are kind of messing numbers with us.

For 1 use, it takes much shorter to charge for sure, but for 2 uses, takes more than 5 mins? And it takes 30 mins longer to charge 3 DUO pocket than 2.4 PLUS, which it’s a decline.

Here is my review:

Functional aspect: for IQOS fans, these are big upgrades, these are something, but for me, someone who already been using and reviewing many different heat-not-burn brands, I am not very impressed, it’s like upgrading iPhone 4 to iPhone 4s kinda thing or say Intel releasing a new chip before Lisa Su becoming the CEO of AMD, not ground-breaking at all.

Firstly, faster charging, this technique isn’t new at all. For me personally, I am not very impressed, compare with Jouz 20 or UWOO Ym, you can smoke 10 sticks  for one full charge. In special contrast to Ym, you can change the heating temperature to find the best temperature for different tobacco sticks, which is an amazing feature never seem to be considered by IQOS.

Is it worth upgrading to IQOS 3 duo ?

IQOS 3 duo is around US $65, about EUR €55 / JPY ¥7,100, so it’s very similar price compare to previous models.

It really depends, for me, I always found myself not satisfied after only one heatstick, Marlboro, Heets or whatever, I think there are a lot of original cigarette smokers feel the same. So I absolutely need some heat not burn device which can used more than once like 3 duo, and if you are a iqos fan, you definitely got to get one.
For me, I already able to continuously smoke 40 sticks after one full charge with my Y1, so.

In conclusion:

I will give 4/5 for iqos 3 duo: still very impressed upgrades for IQOS fans. PMI’s biggest purpose is to sell more heatsticks, HEETS, Marlboro, the two new features illustrate this point well. I was a fan of iqos when I first contracted heat not burn products. Right now, I think IQOS is playing save, maybe this is their strategy: The promotion is exaggerated, but the actual improvement is very small.
